CLARITY: Thousands of empty boxes, bags and envelopes are scattered along the train tracks in East Los Angeles.
Package thieves have been looting trains carrying Amazon cargo for months. Until now, the crime has gone mostly unreported.
If you’ve been waiting weeks and weeks for a delivery that has not shown up, there is a chance a Los Angeles area thief has stolen your package.
Nearly everyday, robbers break into cargo containers along Southern California train lines, stealing everything from child car seats and electronics to Covid-19 test kits and fishing lures.
The thieves are organized, utilizing a complex system of communications including radios and whistles to alert accomplices when they are being watched.
When presented with this video, LA County Sheriff, Alex Villanueva said, “Wow! And that’s all pulled from trains? Wow, that’s all new to me,” he said.
He seemed completely blown away by the enormity of the crime.
“Holy moly,” he said.
The sheriff promised that a team would look into the thefts.
