(D.JORDAN) – It was a close call for a homeless man in Simi Valley. The man narrowly avoided being attacked by an estimated 110 pound mountain lion in the early morning hours of June 17.
Thanks to the quick thinking of two Simi police officers, the man was able to escape unharmed.
Officers spotted the mountain lion around 1am as it prowled through the Arroyo Simi wash near the Rancho Duck Park on Erringer Road. As they moved in for a closer look, they realized that the animal was just several feet away from a man who appeared to be sleeping in the area.
Without hesitating, the officers scared off the mountain lion and woke up the sleeping man, getting him to safety. The animal was last seen running east through the wash.
The large cat is believed to be still on the loose. Anyone who spots it is advised not to approach but to contact the Simi Valley Police Department immediately.
