(CLAIR) – Simi PD nabs burglar targeting homes in Moorpark.
On January 4th, detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Moorpark Investigations Bureau arrested Alibek Gabdel Nagim, a 28-year-old man from Burbank, for three residential burglaries that occurred in Moorpark.
But here’s the twist: Nagim wasn’t caught in the act. In fact, he was arrested by the Simi Valley Police Department for a residential burglary in the Wood Ranch neighborhood. It wasn’t until detectives compared his booking photo to surveillance footage from a department store that they realized he was the suspect they had been searching for.
So how did they link him to the burglaries in Moorpark? Well, it turns out Nagim was quite the repeat offender. Over the course of two weeks, he burglarized six different homes in Moorpark, all within two blocks of each other. And he was smart about it too – in each instance, he attempted to minimize his presence in the homes or made multiple entries on different days.
But his luck finally ran out when detectives searched his car (which was still parked in the Wood Ranch neighborhood) and found evidence linking him to the burglaries in Moorpark.
Nagim was arrested and booked on three additional counts of residential burglary, with bail set at $100,000. Additional charges are pending.
