(CLAIR) – Simi Valley’s hometown superstar, Carson Mott, has committed to play football for Weber State University. In a post to Twitter Monday night, Mott announced his commitment to the Weber State Wildcats.
Mott, a premier senior defensive end from Simi Valley High, originally committed to the University of Colorado football program last June. However, after a poor start by Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell, the school hired former NFL all-pro Deion Sanders to replace him.
Three days after Sanders was hired, Mott received a call from Colorado recruiting coordinator D.J. Bryant, and was told that his scholarship offer would not be honored by the new coaching staff.
“It was a huge mess,” said Mott, who is ranked 974th nationally and 92nd at his position, according to 247 Sports. “I actually never got contacted by Deion or any of his new staff. I got called by the recruiting coordinator. They told me that coach Deion didn’t want to honor my commitment and hung up the phone.”
Mott took to social media to share the news, which sparked an initial flood of responses from other colleges and universities looking to recruit him. After considering offers from Weber State, New Mexico State, Washington, Idaho, Hawaii, San Diego State, Montana, and Washington State, Mott ultimately chose to commit to the Weber State Wildcats.
The decision to commit to Weber State was an easy one for Mott, as the program has had a lot of success in recent years. The Wildcats finished the 2022 season ranked #9 in the final, season-end stats. They have finished in the top 10 only six times in program history, five of which have come since 2017. The team also had a strong 10-3 overall record, and was voted ninth in the final coaches poll.
Mott is a huge win for Weber State, as they add a top-notch defensive player to their already successful program. With the addition of Mott, the Weber State Wildcats are sure to have another successful season this fall.
