(CLAIR) – There have been calls for the community of Simi Valley to consider honoring the memory of fallen war hero John D. House.
House, a resident of Simi Valley, was killed in action in 2005 while serving in Iraq.
Petty Officer 3rd Class, John D. House was a beloved medic and sailor who was killed in a helicopter crash while serving in Iraq. He was just 28 years old and left behind his wife and young son. Despite the tragedy of his death, House’s memory continues to inspire and touch the hearts of those who knew him.
Online, messages and tributes from House’s fellow servicemen, friends, and family members paint a picture of a man who was dedicated to serving his country and his community.
One of the most touching stories about House is the bond he formed with his son, who was born just days before House was killed. As a new dad, House went to great lengths to ensure that his son would know him, even from afar. He recorded himself reading “Goodnight Moon” so his son would know his voice and slept with a stuffed toy under his shirt for two weeks so his son would know his scent.
A Sergeant Wiggins of 29 Palms writes, “I served with Doc House in Fallujah up until his helo went down. His family is always in my prayers and I am proud to have served with such a great guy. He will forever be missed.”
Another message on the FallenHeroes.com website reads, “I went to Corps School with John. There isn’t a day that I walk by our class photo that I don’t think of him.”
The Fallen Heroes website displays over 80 messages in memory of John and in support of his family.
Establishing a memorial in honor of House would serve as a reminder of House’s sacrifice and dedication to his country and as a tribute to his memory. The outpouring of support for House and his family in the wake of his death is evidence of the impact he had on those around him.
John D. House was a remarkable man who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his country. Perhaps there is room in the community to consider honoring his memory with a memorial. A John D. House Memorial would serve as a testament to the love and appreciation Simi Valley has for its fallen heroes.
