(CLAIR) – Good news for Simi Valley residents: We can now water our lawns and gardens twice a week. This comes after a recent rainfall led Ventura County Waterworks District to suspend its one-day-per-week watering mandate. The Simi Valley City Council unanimously approved moving back its water shortage level from Stage 4 to Stage 2. The once-weekly, 10-minutes-per-station cap has been in place since June of last year.
Golden State Water Company, which serves about 35% of Simi Valley, still limits customers to watering one day per week. They are currently pondering whether to lift their one-day-a-week watering requirement after Metropolitan Water District’s March 14 meeting. However, Waterworks District No. 8 customers can now water twice weekly on designated days.
Officials agreed to immediately suspend enforcement and fines for noncompliance. Waterworks’ customers are still required to fix leaks, breaks or malfunctions within five days.
Despite the recent rainfall, the region is still cautious about the water supply.
