(CLAIR) – Simi Valley’s 11th Annual Civil War Days Living History event is just around the corner. Scheduled to take place on April 1 and 2, 2023, at Strathearn Historical Park. The event is organized by the Simi Valley Historical Society. The two day event promises to be an exciting weekend of historical demonstrations, reenactments, and educational opportunities.
Strathearn Historical Park will transform itself into a small town in rural America in the 1860s. Visitors will step back in time and witness history come to life. Costumed civilians and soldiers from the north and south will be ready to tell their stories to the passing visitors. Sergeants will drill groups of local boys and girls curious to experience military life. Skirmishes, artillery, and infantry demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend.
There will be many highlights during the event, including President Lincoln delivering his Gettysburg Address, General Ulysses S. Grant and General Robert E. Lee reenacting the Surrender at Appomattox, and a chance for kids to enlist and interview soldiers.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience authentic artillery and infantry demonstrations, enjoy a 1860s gospel music performance on Sunday, and tour historic Simi houses and buildings.
One of the highlights of the event will be the chance to meet Harriet Tubman and listen as she shares her experiences on the Underground Railroad. Visitors will also enjoy music performed daily by Orange Town Revival, Mountain Fife and Drums, and Camp Carleton Band.
Food will be available for sale from local vendors, and advanced tickets can be purchased online for $8 for adults and $5 for children from 5 to 12 years old. Prices at the gate are $10 for adults. Children under 5 are free, and active and retired military with ID get free entry as well.
The Simi Valley Historical Society encourages visitors to check out the event page for details and to share photos from past years in the discussion section. Tickets sales are already live, and the organizers will be posting photos and information about the event over the next few weeks.
If you are a history buff or just looking for a fun and educational weekend, the 11th Annual Civil War Days Living History event at Strathearn Historical Park is the perfect opportunity to step back in time and experience history come to life.
