(CLAIR) – On April 27, residents of Simi Valley have the chance to join an important and free conversation about fentanyl and its effect on the community. Soroptimist International of Simi Valley and New Beginnings Church are working together to host this much needed Fentanyl Community Meeting. The goal is to teach the community about the dangers of this powerful drug and provide information about how they can help fight against it.
This event is happening at a crucial time, as Ventura County faces both progress and challenges in dealing with drug addiction. Thanks to local groups like Ventura County Responds and Not One More, the number of fatal drug overdoses in the county has gone down. However, deaths caused by fentanyl are still a big problem.
The event will feature a panel discussion with expert speakers, including District Attorney Erik Nasarenko, VC Chief Medical Examiner Christopher Young MD, Simi Valley Chief of Police Steve Shorts, President Pat Montoya of the organization Not One More, as well as other doctors and community leaders from throughout the area.
The organizers want to create a supportive environment, with open dialogue and discussion, where attendees feel comfortable asking questions. During the event, the panel will talk about the dangers of fentanyl, how it affects Simi Valley, and what people can do to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
There is limited seating at the venue, however a live stream will be available so those unable to attend will still be able to participate and learn.
The Fentanyl Community Meeting is a great chance for Simi Valley residents to find out about the work being done by different groups in the county that are working to lower the number of drug overdoses and deaths.
The recent decrease in heroin overdoses and overall drug-related deaths in Ventura County shows that raising awareness and working together can help fight the opioid crisis. By attending this event, the community will learn more about the issue and discover new ways to participate in the solutions being implemented to make the area safer and healthier.
