(CLAIR) – The Simi Valley Animal Shelter is hosting fee-waived dog adoptions from March 25th to April 2nd.
The Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) is encouraging the community to come out and meet their furry friends during the week-long event. The goal is to help dogs in need find their forever homes.
The shelter currently has a range of breeds, ages, and sizes available for adoption. Interested individuals can preview the dogs in the shelter’s care on the VCAS website.
To schedule an adoption appointment, residents can sign up on the VCAS portal from 9:00am to 10:30am, Tuesday through Sunday. The sign-up list is only active during these hours and remains inactive on Mondays and all holidays when the shelter is closed. However, signing up is not mandatory to adopt a pet. The VCAS facility opens at 1:00 pm for those who wish to walk around and view the animals in person.
It’s important to note that due to the popularity of some animals, the shelter is only able to reach out to the first two parties who have signed up for the same animal. If an individual did not receive a call back, it is likely due to their lower placement on the list.
In general, individuals who sign up online will have priority over those who have walked into the shelter without an appointment. This is an important consideration to keep in mind, especially with puppies, small dogs, and rare breeds.
For those interested in adopting a rabbit, VCAS has the Bunny Brigade schedule available on its website, where individuals can view the rabbits’ availability and schedule an appointment online.
It’s vital to note that the adoption process takes time, as the shelter strives to ensure the best possible matches between animals and their new families. The process make take at least an hour and sometimes up to two hours, depending on the number of shelter guests and other factors.
Please note that puppies, small breeds, or rare breeds get adopted quickly the day they become available. If an individual does not use the sign-up portal, they will likely miss the opportunity to adopt the animals that are in high demand.
Adopters must be 18 years or older. VCAS provides a list of adoption fees on its website.
For those interested in adopting a furry friend, the fee-waived dog adoptions event at the Simi Valley Animal Shelter is an excellent opportunity to do so.
