(CLAIR) – Is it just us, or do you also feel like residents of Simi Valley are torn between the two Target stores? Target Madera and Target Cochran have been competing for customers for over a decade. While one could argue Target Madera is located in a more affluent area and offers a higher-end feel and wider selection of products, Target Cochran is centrally located in a more working-class area and is considered the “discount” Target, with lower prices and, perhaps, a larger selection of clothing and knick-knacks.
The rivalry between the two stores has been good for consumers, with both stores forced to keep prices low and offer competitive products. However, the rivalry seems to be increasing in intensity, with customers and employees developing strong opinions over which store is superior. Some people prefer Target Madera for its higher-end appearance and selection of groceries and home goods, while others prefer Target Cochran for its perceived lower prices and more convenient location.
When the newer Target store opened within five miles of the original Sycamore Square Shopping Center facility, it initially raised concerns among residents and city officials. In 2010, Simi Valley Councilwoman Michelle Foster stated that Target Inc. reassured the city that the Target in Sycamore Square would continue and not be closing. Also at that time, former Moorpark Mayor Janice Parvin expressed concern that the new Target Madera store could affect sales in Moorpark.
Despite those concerns, Target assured residents of both cities that it is not uncommon for Target stores to be near each other. They also stated that there was no need to worry about either the Simi Valley or Moorpark Target closing.
Whether you’re a Target Madera fan or a Target Cochran enthusiast, it’s clear both stores have something unique and special to offer Simi Valley shoppers.
Samantha, a frequent Target shopper said, “There is no question, people in Simi love their Target. Ultimately, the best way to decide which store is better for people to visit them both and and see for themselves.”
