Greenbriar Grooves: Neighborhood Band Turns Streets into Stages
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) – The Greenbriar neighborhood in Simi Valley hosts a unique weekly event known as the Greenbriar Block Concert. Initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic by local resident John Stephens, the concert series has since become a staple community gathering every Saturday from 7:30 PM to ??? at 784 Greenbriar Ave.
John Stephens, inspired by a similar musical initiative in New Orleans, recruited fellow residents Josh Lipking and Nick Wilsey to start the event as a way to uplift spirits during the lockdown. The band later expanded to include Kris Schaffner and Eric Barone, forming a five-member ensemble that performs a range of music styles, predominantly classic rock and blues.
The concerts are designed to bring people together. According to Marge Henning, a Greenbriar resident, these events offer a significant social outlet for the neighborhood, enhancing community ties and providing much needed entertainment.
The concerts have consistently attracted both residents of Greenbriar and visitors from surrounding areas, thanks to the high-quality performances and the inviting atmosphere. The event is free and open to all, contributing to its popularity and steady growth in attendance.
Organizers have indicated plans to continue evolving the concert series, with new music and potential guest performances. The Greenbriar Block Concerts represent a successful example of community-driven entertainment that enhances community spirit in Simi Valley.
