(CLAIR | Simi VAlley, CA) – A slow-moving brush fire is currently burning in Simi Valley, just north of Ditch Road, near the 118 Fwy. The fire has prompted evacuations for the affected homes, ensuring the safety of local residents. Evacuated individuals are being accommodated at an evacuation center established at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park.
Residents are advised to stay clear of the area as traffic is likely to be impacted while fire crews work diligently to contain the blaze. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and Ventura County Fire Department are leading the response efforts, with valuable assistance from the Simi Valley Police Department.
Dramatic aerial photographs and pictures taken from the top of First Street show the extent of the fire and the efforts of the fire crews as they battle the blaze. The images capture the thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky and the challenging terrain the firefighters are working in.
The brush fire comes at a critical time as Southern California braces for a significant heatwave just before the Fourth of July holiday. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for several areas, including the 5 and 14 freeway corridors, the western San Gabriel Mountains, the Antelope Valley foothills, and the Antelope Valley. This warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through at least 5 a.m. the following Monday, with temperatures in the warning area expected to reach as high as 115 degrees.
Authorities are urging residents to take precautions during this period of heightened risk. The combination of the ongoing brush fire and the extreme heatwave underscores the importance of staying informed and prepared. Residents are reminded to avoid the fire-affected areas and to follow any evacuation orders or advisories issued by local authorities.
Further updates on the fire and weather conditions will be provided as the situation develops.
