(CLAIR – Simi Valley, CA) – On July 2nd, the Simi Valley/Moorpark City Club held its regular monthly meeting at the Junkyard Café in Simi Valley. The meeting featured a short talk by Dorina Timbol, a candidate for the Simi Valley School Board. The event provided a valuable opportunity for Timbol to share her vision and connect with community members.
Dorina Timbol, a resident of Simi Valley for over three decades, emphasized her deep ties to the community. With two children who have gone through the Simi Valley school system, she highlighted her commitment to family and community support. She discussed her husband’s 37 years of service in the United States Air Force and her significant role in organizing an Air Force family support program. She also shared her early career achievements in real estate and her success in founding a 31,000-square-foot sports center for children, which produced an Olympian. These accomplishments underscore her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to youth development.
Recently, Timbol served as Executive Director of a well-known local non-profit. Under her leadership, the organization rapidly grew and was named California Nonprofit of the Year within a year of her tenure. She discussed the foundation’s focus on providing essential resources and support to children and families in need, demonstrating her strong leadership and strategic vision.
Addressing the current state of the school district, Timbol highlighted the need to focus on academic excellence and intervene with struggling students by middle school. She criticized the current school board for prioritizing new buildings over educational outcomes and stressed the importance of having law enforcement in schools to ensure student safety.
Timbol also emphasized the necessity of diversity in thought, not just in gender and ethnicity, and called for more Spanish-speaking teachers to better serve the majority Hispanic student population in Simi Valley schools. She voiced her opposition to recent school bonds, arguing that academic success should be the primary focus.
Her extensive community involvement includes roles with the Boys and Girls Club, Soroptimist, and Rotary Club. Timbol’s commitment to youth leadership and community service has earned her endorsements from the Simi Valley Police Officers Association and the Central Committee for her school board candidacy.
In her conclusion, Timbol reiterated her vision for a school district that prioritizes academic success, ensures safety, and provides essential resources for teachers and students. Her clear, actionable plans and deep connection to the community resonated with the attendees, reinforcing her position as a dedicated and visionary leader.
