(CLAIR | Simi Valley,CA) – On a rainy Tuesday evening in Simi Valley, the Monte Vista High School multipurpose room was transformed into a hub of holiday preparation. Members of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise, joined by a few dedicated Monte Vista students, spent hours crafting festive floral centerpieces for the annual Senior Center Thanksgiving Dinner.
The dinner, hosted by the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise and the Council On Aging, will take place on November 27 at the Simi Valley Senior Citizens Center. Open to seniors and the homeless, the event provides not only a traditional Thanksgiving meal but also a sense of community and care.
Inside the MPR, volunteers worked on long tables filled with colorful, fall flowers, greenery, and supplies. Demi Fox, a key organizer, and Dr. P, a Past-President of the Rotary Club, led the group as they arranged the centerpieces that will brighten the dinner tables.
“These centerpieces are about more than decoration,” said Demi Fox. “They represent the community’s love and support, making the event feel warm and welcoming for everyone.”
Dr. P, who inspired the creative efforts, added, “It’s a small touch, but it makes a big difference. Seeing people come together like this, even in the rain, reminds us of the true spirit of Thanksgiving.”
The Thanksgiving Dinner, organized by the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise, has become a highlight of the holiday season in Simi Valley. Volunteers ensure that guests enjoy a traditional meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and other favorites.
As the rain continued outside, the spirit of generosity inside the MPR remained undeterred. Volunteers reflected on the impact of their efforts. “It’s not just about the food; it’s about making people feel valued and included,” said one Rotary member as they placed the finishing touches on a centerpiece.
With the centerpieces ready for delivery, the room buzzed with a sense of accomplishment.
The event, open to all seniors and homeless individuals in Simi Valley, will be held at the Simi Valley Senior Citizens Center on November 27. Thanks to the dedication of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise, this special event will bring light and joy to the community, rain or shine.
