(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Saiounia “Sai” Hughley, a 30-year-old marketing professional, is leaving behind the suburban comfort of Simi Valley and diving headfirst into one of reality TV’s toughest competitions. Known for her quick wit, competitive drive, and ability to charm just about anyone, Sai isn’t just here to survive—she’s here to win.
And she’s not the first Simi Valley resident to take on the challenge.

Back in 2006, Bruce Kanegai, a popular Simi High School art teacher, competed on Survivor: Panama. A rock for his chaotic tribe, Bruce built strong social bonds and seemed destined for a deep run—until a brutal illness forced him out of the game in a devastating medical evacuation. His unexpected exit left his allies shattered and fans wondering what could have been.
Now, nearly two decades later, Sai is picking up where Bruce left off. But unlike her predecessor, she plans to see this game through to the very end.
Survivor is a social experiment disguised as an adventure, and Sai was made for both. A marketing pro by day, she knows how to read people, build alliances, and sell a story—exactly the skills needed to manipulate, deceive, and ultimately convince a jury to hand her a million dollars. If she can use her gift of gab to navigate the shifting alliances, she could become one of the most dangerous social players this season.
But don’t let the smooth talk fool you—Sai’s got an edge. She’s competitive, athletic, and has spent years playing volleyball and swimming, which could help her crush challenges. And she’s no stranger to the spotlight: she once played Nala in The Lion King off-Broadway. That means she knows how to perform, adapt, and command attention—a critical skill when you’re trying to make sure the jury remembers your game at the final tribal council.
She describes herself as a mix of Maryanne Oketch (Survivor 42 winner), who used charm and strategy to win, and Drea Wheeler, a powerhouse player who always kept her eye on the prize. If she can balance the two, Sai could be the total package.
Of course, being charismatic in Survivor can be just as dangerous as being weak. If people like you too much, they vote you out. Sai’s ability to make people feel valued could easily paint a massive target on her back.
And then there’s the island life struggle. Sai is not a fan of loud chewers, the word “moist,” or people who mispronounce “salmon.” In a game where you’re sleep-deprived, starving, and forced to be around the same people 24/7, even the smallest annoyances can send you spiraling. If Sai lets her pet peeves get the best of her, it could create cracks in her social game.
With her sharp social skills, competitive fire, and ability to play both the leader and the underdog, Sai has all the makings of a Survivor legend. But the island is unpredictable—one bad vote, one sneaky blindside, or one unexpected twist can end even the best-laid plans.
Will Sai be Simi Valley’s first Sole Survivor? Or will she join the long list of players who left the game too soon? One thing’s for sure—she won’t go down without a fight.
Catch her in action when Survivor 48 premieres February 26 on CBS.
