Throwback Thursday Packs a Punch at Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise hosted a loud, fun, and action packed meeting this week. It was “Throwback Thursday,” where the club brings back a past president to lead a meeting like they did in their year.
This time, it was Bill Klepper’s turn. And he didn’t disappoint.
The morning started with stretches and high kicks, led by Demi Fox. The room, spiked with energy, Klepper stepped up to get the meeting and formalities rolling.
He talked about service, community, and having fun — the heart of Rotary. He also gave a shout-out to last weekend’s Happy Face Art Installation that was featured on ABC TV Channel 7 . “It was a big success,” he said. “We didn’t realize how the story would be picked up.”
Klepper then shared the day’s surprise guests. The club would be joined by Robert Ortiz, founder of Kid Gloves Boxing in Simi Valley. Ortiz also brought masked Mexican-style professional wrestlers to keep things interesting.
The club also heard from Eagle Scout candidate Parker Bedford. He’s raising money to send 25 care packages to troops overseas. Members were quick to show Parker their support.

Next, a speaker from the Simi Valley Parks District gave an update. A half-scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial will be coming to Simi Valley in May.
Then came a surprise. Dan “The Man” Rosen stepped up to present Klepper with another Paul Harris Award — one of Rotary’s highest honors. This award was more than Klepper is officially allowed to receive, but no one in the room minded.
After that, the main event began.
Coach Robert Ortiz and his team gave a fast-paced boxing and wrestling demo. Then Victor Ortiz — former WBC welterweight champion — gave a short, powerful talk about discipline, family, and staying focused.
The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise is known for its Happy Face events. But mornings like this show how much more they do.
Service, fun, and a strong sense of community — all before 9 a.m.
