Ventura County Shelter Favorite Looks for His Match
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — These days, Bramble bounds through the yard with a goofy grin and a tail that never stops wagging. He plays with other dogs like they’ve known each other for years and perks up anytime a treat bag rustles.
But when Bramble first arrived at Ventura County Animal Services back in September, he was a different dog. He was shut down, scared, and unsure of everything around him. He kept his distance and barely looked anyone in the eye. Now, a few months later, Bramble is a staff and volunteer favorite.
He’s been working on basic training. He’s got a good sit, can offer a paw for a shake, and is learning to come when called. Like a lot of dogs, Bramble is food-motivated. Toss him a treat and he’ll likely be your shadow for the rest of the day.
To help Bramble find a home, Ventura County Animal Services is waiving his adoption fee for anyone who mentions this article.
VCAS operates two shelters—its main facility in Camarillo and a smaller one in Simi Valley. Bramble is currently located at the Camarillo shelter.
Across both locations, VCAS cares for around 200 to 250 animals. As of this week, that includes 169 dogs, 20 cats, and 28 rabbits. They’re also caring for five turtles and a guinea pig, and from time to time, chickens, goats, and other animals.
“These numbers change continuously, but that’s a general breakdown of what we typically see,” said Randy Friedman, spokesperson for Ventura County Animal Services.
If you’d like to meet Bramble, you can schedule an appointment at vcas.us/adopt or visit the Camarillo shelter between 1 and 6 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
You might be surprised by how quickly Bramble will let you in—especially if you bring snacks.
