Angela Magat’s Story Is One for the Books
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — For Angela Magat, teaching in the same community that raised her is more than a job—it’s a calling. This April, the Simi Valley Education Foundation named Angela as its Teacher of the Month, recognizing the incredible impact she makes each day as a Special Education teacher at Township Elementary School.
Angela, who once walked the halls of Simi Valley schools as a student, now works with some of its youngest learners in grades K–2, helping them navigate challenges and discover their strengths. With her steady positivity and deep commitment, she creates an environment where learning feels possible, even joyful, for students with learning difficulties.
“She is the embodiment of what every parent hopes for in a teacher,” said Township Elementary School Principal Lori Neiman. “Angela is caring, consistent, and deeply committed to her students’ growth—not just academically, but emotionally and socially too.”
Her colleagues say she brings both heart and skill to her work, personalizing instruction and celebrating each child’s progress—no matter how small. Every day, Angela helps students feel seen, supported, and capable of more than they imagined.
Each month during the school year, the Teacher of the Month program recognizes one exceptional educator in the Simi Valley Unified School District for their contributions to students and the school community.
This recognition is made possible by the support of local businesses and organizations, including Chick-fil-A, Grand Canyon University, Harley’s Bowl, Iverson Construction, Logix Federal Credit Union, Schools Federal Credit Union, Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, Simi Valley YMCA, Eric Little with State Farm Insurance, and Ventura County Credit Union. These partners join the Foundation and local dignitaries to present gifts and certificates as a gesture of appreciation.
According to the Simi Valley Education Foundation, the community’s involvement sends a powerful message: teachers matter—and Simi Valley stands behind those who make a difference in its classrooms.
Since 1989, the Foundation has provided more than $2.5 million to Simi Valley’s public schools, supporting innovative teaching, campus improvements, and scholarships for graduating seniors.
