(CLAIR | Moorpark, CA) — On Saturday, May 3, the community will gather at Mammoth Highlands Park for a special event that gives real meaning to Mother’s Day. The 8th Annual Mother’s Day Fundraiser in support of Martha Venegas and her children will run from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., hosted by local wellness group Positively Fit.
Mother’s Day is often about cards, flowers, and brunch. But for many moms, it’s a day of reflection, resilience, and quiet strength. For Martha Venegas, it’s all of that and more.
In 2015, Martha survived a brutal domestic violence attack. Her husband doused her with gasoline and set her on fire. She was burned over 85% of her body. Doctors gave her a five percent chance of surviving. She lived—because she had four small children depending on her.
Now, almost ten years later, Martha is still fighting. She’s raising her kids, managing medical care, and working toward a future where they can have a place of their own. This Mother’s Day, the community is stepping up to support her.
The fundraiser will start with a light yoga stretch and continue with a walk along the Bridle Path trail in the Moorpark Highlands. It’s a chance to move, breathe, and reflect—with purpose. Attendees are encouraged to give a “goodwill donation.” Every cent raised goes directly to Martha and her children.
Meetup is on the grassy field across from the tennis courts at 7000 Elk Run Loop. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a towel and water, and don’t worry if you’ve never done yoga—this is about showing up, not being perfect. Extras will be available for anyone who needs gear.

Organizer Shana Daniels, of Positively Fit, says this event is about more than exercise. “Mother’s Day should be about honoring the mothers who give everything they have. Martha gave everything—and she’s still giving, every single day.”
Martha and her children now live in one room at her parents’ home. She receives $1,000 a month in assistance—far below what it takes to live in Ventura County. Her dream is simple: a one-bedroom apartment and a job to support her family.
This fundraiser is a reminder that Mother’s Day isn’t just about celebrating. It’s about showing up for moms who need us.
