(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Navigating public transportation in Simi Valley is about to get easier—thanks to a new series of hands-on workshops and an upcoming microtransit service aimed at enhancing local mobility for all.
Simi Valley Transit will launch the first in a trio of free Travel Training Workshops on Tuesday, May 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Simi Valley Senior Center. Designed for anyone who wants to better understand the city’s transit system, the workshops offer practical, in-person support for planning trips, reading bus schedules, paying fares, and getting where you need to go—with confidence.
Whether you’re new to public transportation or simply curious about how to make better use of it, the workshops are meant to remove guesswork and hesitation. Participants will also take a short guided bus ride as part of the session, turning knowledge into firsthand experience.
Mayor Dee Dee Cavanaugh says the workshops are part of a bigger picture: a city that works for everyone. “Public transportation offers residents a safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly way to travel throughout our community,” she said. “By participating in these workshops, residents can gain the confidence and skills they need to take full advantage of the services available and enjoy greater mobility and independence.”
The program arrives just ahead of a major transit addition: Simi Valley’s new Microtransit service, expected to launch in early summer. Unlike fixed-route buses, Microtransit will offer flexible, on-demand transportation—blending the accessibility of public transit with the convenience of rideshare. It’s designed to connect neighborhoods that regular routes may miss, making it easier for more residents to get where they need to go.
Additional workshop dates will vary and take place at different community locations. Residents can check the city’s online calendar or call Simi Valley Transit at (805) 583-6456 for updated information.
In a time when traffic, fuel costs, and environmental concerns are rising, public transportation offers more than just a ride. It offers options. And Simi Valley is making sure those options are clearly understood, accessible, and ready for everyone.
