(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — At a time when partisanship often drowns out dialogue, finding common ground can be a cornerstone to building trust.
At the heart of that effort is a return to something simple yet powerful: mutual respect. That principle will take center stage at the upcoming Common Ground Forum at the Reagan Library on Monday, May 19 at 6 p.m., where Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) will meet in conversation to explore how listening across differences can help move the nation forward.
The evening is presented by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute as part of its Center on Civility and Democracy. The series takes inspiration from President Reagan’s working relationship with Democratic Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill—a reminder that principled leadership and productive disagreement are not mutually exclusive.
According to their official biographies, Spencer J. Cox is a husband, father, farmer, and self-described recovering attorney. He is Utah’s 18th governor and recently served as the 2023–2024 chairman of the National Governors Association. Michelle Lujan Grisham earned a law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law and has held leadership roles in public health and government. She became the 32nd governor of New Mexico in 2019 and is the first Democratic Hispanic woman elected governor in U.S. history.
The program is open to the public both in-person and online. While there is no set cost to attend, donations to support the Reagan Foundation’s mission are appreciated.
