Samaritan Center of Simi Valley Welcomes New Board President
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — The Samaritan Center of Simi Valley is starting a new chapter. After years of service, Board President Daniel Peña has retired. On Wednesday night, the Center’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to elect Doug Landon, the organization’s Treasurer and grant writer, as the new Board President.
Executive Director Annika Sumby praised Peña’s contributions, saying:
“Daniel’s leadership has been a guiding force for the Samaritan Center. His dedication and passion for our mission have made a lasting impact on both the organization and the community we serve.”
Landon, who has helped secure grants that fund many of the Center’s programs, said he is ready to step into the role:
“I am honored to step into this role and continue the incredible work Daniel has led. Together with our board, staff, and volunteers, I look forward to strengthening the Samaritan Center’s impact in Simi Valley.”
The Samaritan Center provides support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or financial hardship. Services include daily meals, case management, showers, laundry, and connections to health care and housing. The nonprofit also works with community partners to help clients regain stability and independence.
Beyond its day-to-day services, the Center plays a visible role in the community. It hosts fundraising events and regularly participates in local service club programs. The Samaritan Center has recently been nominated for a 2025 Best of Simi Valley & Moorpark award.
Peña’s retirement closes a long period of steady leadership. Landon’s election signals continuity but also a renewed focus on meeting the rising needs in Simi Valley, where housing costs remain high and homelessness continues to be a countywide concern.
