(CLAIR | Ventura County, CA) — Sometimes, all it takes is a wagging tail and a smile to remind us what pure joy looks like. At Ventura County Animal Services, three adoptable dogs — Farley, Glory and Pepper — are waiting for that moment when a visitor meets their eyes and knows they’ve found a friend.
Farley is a happy big boy, loving as can be. In a recent Facebook video, he’s smiling at the camera, his face upside down as a volunteer pets him while he rests across her lap. “I love this dog,” she says in the clip. Farley is a 3-year-old neutered pit bull mix who weighs about 70 pounds. He’s been at the Camarillo Animal Shelter since early September and is ready for adoption from Kennel 113.

Also at the Camarillo shelter, a 5-year-old Chow Chow mix named Glory is getting ready to be featured as Ventura County Animal Services’ next Pet of the Week. In her video, she plays with toys, full of energy and life. She’ll plop down to chew for a while, then bounce right back up, acting much younger than her age. Staff say she’s done well off-leash with other dogs and seems comfortable around them. Glory is available now from Kennel 007.

Meanwhile in Simi Valley, Pepper is eager to find her next adventure. The 6-year-old Border Collie mix has been available since early October at the Simi Valley Animal Shelter, Kennel 923. True to her breed, she’s smart, active and happiest when she has a purpose — whether that’s joining a hiking buddy or being part of a family that keeps her engaged.
VCAS is once again waiving adoption fees at both shelters. Every adoption includes spay or neuter, a microchip and vaccinations. Shelter staff note that darker-colored dogs often wait longer to be adopted, possibly because they don’t photograph as clearly in kennels or online, even though in person they’re just as affectionate and expressive as any other.
The Camarillo Animal Shelter is located at 600 Aviation Drive in Camarillo, and the Simi Valley Animal Shelter is at 670 W. Los Angeles Avenue. Both are open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Mondays.
If Farley, Glory or Pepper have already found homes, many others are still waiting. Visit vcas.us/adopt for details or stop by either shelter to meet your next best friend.
