(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — What began in 1965 as a small group committed to making a difference has grown into a driving force for good in Simi Valley. On Sunday, Oct. 19, the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley celebrated 60 years of service with a spirited anniversary event at St. Francis of Assisi Church, honoring decades of hands-on work helping children, supporting families and giving back to the community.
Local dignitaries joined Kiwanis leaders for the special occasion, including Mayor Dee Dee Cavanaugh, members of the City Council and representatives from the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce—among them the Chamber president and membership director. The Kiwanis District Governor delivered the keynote address and the Division Lieutenant Governor officiated the installation of the club’s new board and officers.
The celebration also highlighted the club’s long-standing investment in youth leadership. Guests included the Lieutenant Governor of Simi Valley’s high school Key Club and the President of Moorpark College’s Circle K chapter—two student-led service organizations supported by Kiwanis that help develop leadership skills and a lifelong commitment to service.

After a social hour and lunch, members reflected on the club’s six decades of community involvement—from organizing food drives and holiday events to supporting schools, scholarships and youth programs.
Twelve past presidents who remain active were honored at the event, including four who each served two terms. In recognition of the club’s enduring impact, a Congressional Certificate of Recognition was presented to mark the milestone.

The Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley continues its mission today with regular meetings, community projects and youth support efforts. The club meets on the first and third Wednesday evenings at 99.1 The Ranch Studios (1555 Simi Town Center Way) and on the second and fourth Wednesday mornings at Denny’s (5197 E. Los Angeles Avenue). Social gatherings are held on fifth Wednesdays. New members are welcome.
