(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — On Veterans Day, the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley turned gratitude into service by hosting its annual Great American Food Drive. Volunteers spent the morning collecting donations at the Senior Center, then loading up trucks bound for local food banks and community groups.

By the end of the day, 15 truckloads of groceries and household items were on their way to Shepherd of the Valley Food Bank, the Samaritan Center, the Salvation Army and the VFW. Kiwanis members also donated four shelving carts to the Senior Center and set aside supplies for future care packages for For the Troops, the Simi Valley Police Department Special Crimes Unit and the American Legion.
As the holidays approach and food banks brace for higher demand, local businesses stepped in too. Barcena Plumbing helped load and deliver the donations, giving the effort an extra lift when it mattered most.

A simple idea, a few hours spent and a community willing to show up. That’s what this looks like when we do it together.
