(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — For Christina Humphreys, kindergarten is a launching point. She brings energy and enthusiasm to the classroom, helping students begin their first big school adventure, nurturing curiosity and building the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
Humphreys, a kindergarten teacher at Vista Elementary School, has been named the December Teacher of the Month by the Simi Valley Education Foundation.
On Vista’s website, Humphreys and her kindergarten colleagues describe the year as a time of exploration, inquiry and discovery — a period when children grow quickly and learn through hands-on experiences. That philosophy shapes her classroom, where young students are encouraged to experiment, ask questions and build confidence.
The foundation said Humphreys hopes to inspire, educate and get her students excited about learning. She looks forward to watching their growth as they explore and discover new concepts and ideas.
Teacher of the Month honorees receive tokens of appreciation from community partners including Chick-fil-A, Grand Canyon University, Harley’s Bowl, Iverson Construction, Logix Federal Credit Union, the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, the Simi Valley YMCA, Eric Little with State Farm Insurance, Ventura County Credit Union and the Walt Fuller Foundation. Local dignitaries also present certificates recognizing each teacher’s contributions.
“Together, we send a clear message that the business community supports and values the dedication of our teachers,” said Ryan Fowler, board president of the Simi Valley Education Foundation.
Since 1989, the foundation has invested more than $2.5 million in Simi Valley public schools through classroom grants, schoolwide projects, department enhancements and scholarships for graduating seniors.
