He offers a paw, plays fetch, and fits easily into everyday life.
(CLAIR | Camarillo, CA) — Some dogs greet the world by rushing toward it. Hank greets it by offering a paw.
He places it in your hand calmly, as if he knows this is how introductions should be made. In that brief moment you connect and learn what kind of dog he is.
Hank is four years old and has spent more than 100 days waiting at Ventura County Animal Services. During that time he has done everything shelters hope their dogs will do. He has attended public adoption events. He has greeted people of all ages. He has worn a Halloween costume. He has played fetch and returned the ball neatly to your feet. He listens. He engages. He stays with you.
Hank does not demand attention or take over a room. Shelter staff describe his personality as “super fun energy” — enthusiasm that knows when to settle and affection that never overwhelms. He seems built for everyday life: morning walks, familiar routes, a backyard at dusk, a presence nearby while the house exhales at the end of the day.
He arrived at the shelter with another dog. That companion has since been adopted. Hank watched him go and remained. He did not withdraw. He did not harden. He stayed social open and ready. Staff say he is available for dog-to-dog meet-and-greets and could do well with a canine sibling.
Dogs like Hank are often overlooked not because something is wrong but because nothing about them demands attention. Days move on. New dogs arrive. Attention shifts. Meanwhile the dogs who have already shown they can adapt connect and belong continue to wait.
Adopting Hank is not about fixing something broken. It is about recognizing something intact. He is not a project. He already knows how to show up. He already knows how to be gentle. He already knows how to meet people where they are.
Hank’s adoption fee has been waived. Shelter staff are ready to say yes.
Hank is available to meet daily from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at Ventura County Animal Services 600 Aviation Drive in Camarillo. If he does not find his permanent home right away he is also in need of a foster home — a temporary reprieve from the shelter while he waits for his perfect human.
