Training, try-outs open for lifeguards and swim instructors
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Rancho Simi Recreation & Park District is recruiting lifeguards and swim instructors for the Summer 2026 Rancho Simi Community Pool Aquatics Team, offering students and young adults a chance to earn, learn leadership skills and help keep the community safe this summer.
The district will host swim skill try-outs on March 14 and March 28 at 10 a.m., plus April 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the pool.
Candidates must successfully complete a skills assessment that includes a 300-yard continuous freestyle swim, 50 yards backstroke, 50 yards breaststroke, a two-minute tread water test and retrieving a 10-pound brick from depths of 9 and 15 feet.
Participants should arrive with their swimsuit on and a towel. Goggles are optional.
To reserve a try-out slot, email [email protected]. Successful try-outs lead to application and interview invitations, followed by enrollment in a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course in April.
Applicants must be at least 15 years old by April 10, 2026, and available for mandatory summer training on May 30.
The Rancho Simi Community Pool, operated by the district, is a 50-meter by 25-yard, heated outdoor pool at 1765 Royal Avenue in Simi Valley. It offers year-round access for lap swimming, recreational swim, swimming lessons, birthday parties and aquatics programs for all ages.
Public hours for open swim vary by season, with summer schedules historically including weekday afternoon sessions and weekend hours; admission typically runs a modest fee for ages 2–49, with a reduced rate for older adults.
Beyond employment opportunities, the aquatics program features swimming lessons across skill levels, open rec swim and lap lanes for community members, and seasonal aquatics classes with procedures and registration handled through the district’s program portal.
The pool serves as a community hub where families practice water safety, locals improve fitness, and younger residents gain foundational swim skills under trained instructors.
In a statement, the district said joining the aquatics team offers summer job seekers not only pay but leadership, responsibility and life-saving experience in a structured, team-oriented setting. For more information on employment, aquatics schedules or programs at Rancho Simi Community Pool, call (805) 584-4436, email [email protected], or visit bit.ly/RSRPDLifeguard and www.rsrpd.org.
