(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — If you care about what happens on stage, on gallery walls or in the civic life of this city, this is a chance to step in and help shape it.
The City of Simi Valley is accepting applications for the Simi Valley Arts Commission, with three vacancies currently open.
Arts and culture professionals and patrons, educators, business and community leaders, and residents with experience in marketing or community outreach are encouraged to apply.

“The arts bring people together, spark creativity, and strengthen the fabric of our community. Serving on the Arts Commission is an opportunity to help shape that impact and ensure Simi Valley’s cultural offerings continue to thrive,” said Mayor Dee Dee Cavanaugh in a statement.
Commissioners elevate arts and culture in city policy discussions while supporting local artists and organizations that contribute to Simi Valley’s identity. They advocate for broader public participation and increased access, helping connect residents with performances and programs throughout the year.
Those efforts may include events such as art exhibitions, art walks and multicultural celebrations, with an emphasis on community development and showcasing Simi Valley as a destination.
The group also helps guide long-range planning, as well as fundraising and grant efforts that expand arts opportunities and quality of life for residents.
In addition, the commission reviews and approves the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center’s budgets and operating plan before forwarding them to the City Council for approval.
Located in a historic building at Church Street and Los Angeles Avenue, the Cultural Arts Center hosts theater and dance performances, youth classes, concerts and visual art exhibits. The facility also serves as a gathering space for meetings, conferences and special events.
The Arts Commission is composed of five public members, one representative from the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation and two City Council members. Successful applicants will serve a two-year term from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028.
Meetings are typically held at 3:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every other month, so applicants should have the flexibility to participate during business hours.
Prospective commissioners must attend one of two mandatory orientations prior to selection interviews. The orientations, which may be held online, are scheduled for March 24 and March 26, at 6 p.m.
Applications are due by 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 13, and must be submitted online at www.simivalley.org/ArtsCommissionApp.For information about performances and events at the Cultural Arts Center, visit www.svcac.org.
