(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — After a tough week battling brush fires in and around Simi Valley, local area firefighters are getting a well-deserved hot meal, on the house. Mission Burrito, located at 2161 Tapo Street in Simi Valley, is offering free meals to all active firefighters this Saturday (January 18) as a thank-you for their service and dedication.
Event Details:
- Where: JM Mission Burrito, 2161 Tapo Street, Simi Valley
- When: Saturday (January 18, all day)
- Who: All active firefighters
“Our firefighters put themselves on the line for us,” said Jose Martinez, owner of Mission Burrito. “The least we can do is offer them a good meal and let them know we’re grateful.”
A brush fire earlier this week burned across five acres in the hills above Simi Valley, but our city was fortunate. Thanks to the rapid response of more than 100 firefighters, the flames were quickly contained before they reached any homes. Helicopters dropped water while crews worked on the ground, stopping what could have been a devastating situation.
While we count our blessings, our hearts go out to those in nearby communities who have endured far greater hardships, with homes lost and lives profoundly impacted by the recent destruction.
The timing of this show of appreciation comes at a critical moment. Simi Valley and much of Southern California are gearing up for another round of intense Santa Ana winds starting Monday, and extending through the week. Weather experts warn that gusts could reach up to 80 mph, creating extremely dangerous conditions for firefighters and residents.
This week’s winds are predicted to rival the strength of those that fueled the Palisades and Eaton Fires. With low humidity and dry vegetation, the conditions are primed for fires to ignite and spread rapidly. Simi residents are being urged to clear brush, avoid any outdoor sparks, and stay alert for fire warnings as conditions deteriorate.
If you’re a firefighter or have a firefighter in your family, be sure to let them know about the free meal event at Mission Burrito this Saturday. It’s a chance for them to enjoy some delicious Mexican food while the community shows its appreciation for their bravery and hard work. Encourage them to stop by and take a well-deserved break!
