(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — As devastating wildfires continue to rage across Los Angeles County, displacing thousands of families and causing tragic loss of life, the Simi Valley community is stepping up to provide relief. The “Shine A Light” Gift Card Drive, launched by local service clubs, nonprofit organizations, and interfaith leaders, hopes to bring immediate aid to wildfire victims.
With 27 lives lost and over 170,000 people still under evacuation orders, the wildfires have left a trail of destruction that will take months, if not years, to recover from. Entire neighborhoods in areas like Pacific Palisades have been leveled, leaving residents without homes or basic necessities. Dangerous conditions, including debris, ash, and unstable slopes, have delayed the return of many evacuees.
In response, Simi Valley has organized a community-wide effort to collect $25 gift cards to provide essentials such as food, clothing, and gas. The goal is simple but impactful: to give wildfire victims a way to meet their immediate needs while they work to rebuild their lives.
The Shine A Light Kick-Off Event launched on Friday, January 17th, at 99.1 The Ranch at Simi Town Center. From 4 PM to 7 PM, community members, local leaders, and organizations gathered to donate gift cards for wildfire victims. The event highlighted the community’s commitment to supporting those in need.
The impact of wildfires extends far beyond burned homes. Families are left without clothing, access to food, or reliable transportation. Gift cards provide victims with the flexibility to address their unique needs, offering them a lifeline as they navigate this challenging time.
