(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Milgard Windows & Doors will shut down its Simi Valley manufacturing facility this June, ending over three decades of operation in the city. The closure will affect roughly 400 workers and remove one of Simi Valley’s largest private employers from the local economy.
Located on East Easy Street, the 225,000-square-foot facility has been a fixture in the city since the early 1990s. It has served not just as a production site, but as a reliable source of steady employment. According to Simi Valley’s most recent financial report, Milgard ranked as the sixth-largest employer in the city, with 477 employees on record.
“Milgard has been a great company for many years providing good middle class manufacturing jobs. This is a big loss for Simi Valley and the State of California,” said Glen Becerra, former mayor pro tem for the City of Simi Valley.

The plant manufactures Milgard’s well-known line of vinyl, aluminum, and fiberglass windows and patio doors. MITER Brands, which owns Milgard, says the closure is part of a plan to streamline operations and shift production to facilities with newer technology.
“Our team in Simi Valley has been instrumental in delivering the finest products, services, and customer experiences to our customers,” said Craig Nath, Senior Vice President of Operations at MITER Brands. “We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and contributions of our team members.”
For Simi Valley, the closure leaves a significant gap. Milgard has offered long-term careers to many residents. Workers have started at entry-level positions earning $11 an hour, with some advancing to salaries as high as $60,000 annually, plus bonuses. The loss of those jobs hits not just individuals but families and the broader economic base of the city.
MITER says Milgard products will remain available and customers will not experience any interruptions in service. The company also says it will help affected workers by offering job placement assistance, either within MITER or through local partnerships.
Founded in 1958 in Tacoma, Washington, Milgard has grown into one of the most trusted names in the window and door industry. The company was acquired by Masco Corporation in 2001 and became part of MITER Brands in 2019.
The closure of the Simi Valley facility brings an end to a long chapter for both the company and the city. As June approaches, the community now faces the challenge of absorbing the economic impact and finding new opportunities for hundreds of local workers.
