(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Keeping Simi clean takes teamwork, and the City’s Free Residential Cleanup and Recycling Day is one of the most practical ways to pitch in.
The next event is set for Sunday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center on Madera Road. It’s part of an ongoing partnership between the City of Simi Valley and WM, giving residents an easy, cost-free way to clear out clutter and keep unwanted items out of local canyons, parks and roadsides.

For many households, disposal fees or confusion about recycling can lead to things piling up in garages or side yards. These free cleanup days make it simple: Simi residents can drop off up to two loads of household waste plus as many as five tires at no charge. Loads must be covered during transport, and proof of residency such as a driver’s license or trash bill is required.
Recyclables should be separated from other items to help landfill staff process materials efficiently. In turn, residents can pick up two free bags of compost made from local green waste. Bring sturdy bags or bins, a shovel and gloves to fill your own.
No commercial waste, commercial vehicles, hazardous waste, electronics, liquids, household batteries, products containing mercury such as thermometers and thermostats, or fluorescent light bulbs are allowed. Household hazardous waste (HHW) can be dropped off at one of the City of Simi Valley’s free HHW events, hosted on the third Saturday of every odd month. Appointments can be made at simivalley.org.
These cleanup days may seem routine, but they make a real difference — helping residents declutter responsibly, support recycling and keep Simi’s neighborhoods and open spaces clean.
