(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) —It might be the neighbor who drops off a hot meal, the retiree leading a calming yoga class, or the friendly face who checks you in at the Senior Center. Every day, volunteers across Simi Valley show up in ways that matter — making life better for older adults without asking for credit. Now, the City’s Council On Aging wants to recognize them.
Nominations Open: 2025 Wayne Templeton Volunteer of the Year Award
The Council On Aging (COA) is accepting nominations for the Wayne Templeton Volunteer of the Year Award — an annual honor celebrating a volunteer who’s made a meaningful impact at the Simi Valley Senior Center.
- Deadline to nominate: November 14
- Who can be nominated: Anyone
- Who can submit a nomination: Simi Valley residents aged 60 or older
The Selection Committee will consider both the number of hours served and the difference the nominee has made. The award will be presented at the COA meeting on January 12, 2026.
“The Council On Aging plays a vital role in supporting and advocating for older adults in our community,” Bill Oliver, COA Chair, said in a statement. “We encourage residents to nominate someone who’s made a real difference at the Senior Center.”
A Community Built on Service
According to the 2020 U.S. Census, nearly one in three Simi Valley residents is over 50 — including 21,000 people aged 65 or older. For many, the Senior Center is more than a gathering place; it’s where friendships form, skills grow, and a sense of purpose takes root.
Volunteers are at the heart of it all — serving meals, leading classes, organizing events, or simply offering a kind word.
If you know someone who brings that spirit to life, nominate them today at simivalley.org/COA or call (805) 583-6363.
Let’s shine a light on the people who keep Simi Valley’s senior community strong — one small act of kindness at a time.
