As a Simi Valley resident, you should check out the 2016 film Miss Stevens. This critically acclaimed indie movie, written and directed by Julia Hart, has a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It features numerous familiar locations throughout Simi Valley.
As you watch Miss Stevens, you’ll notice that the movie was set and filmed almost entirely in Simi Valley. The setting brings an element of authenticity to the story that would be hard to capture in The Valley or The City of LA.
Throughout, there are many recognizable landmarks such as Simi High, the 118 freeway, and the Simi Valley Grand Vista Hotel.
The production of Miss Stevens took place in Simi between May and June in 2015.
The story follows Rachel Stevens, a high school English teacher who chaperones three students to a weekend state drama competition. The plot centers on the characters’ journey through various personal and emotional challenges.
During the competition, Rachel encounters another teacher, Walter, and forms a connection with one of her students, Billy, who struggles with a behavioral disorder.
Miss Stevens offers a unique opportunity to see our town under an interesting and creative spotlight. The movie showcases many of the area’s natural landmarks. The work also serves as a testament to the talent of the filmmakers who effectively capture the essence of Simi Valley on film.
